This week Jill Jenkins came to speak with us about her work with LDS Employment and some of her life accomplishments. At LDS Employment Services they have aid to help individuals search jobs, job train, overcome disabilities, and many more services. In order to find more about their services, go here: https://www.ldsjobs.org/ers/ct/?lang=eng. Jill also told us about her life and how she spent 9 months in Uganda for her PhD project. There, the books are all locked up in the classroom because if the children leave with them, the teachers have to pay for the lost books. In order to change this, the teachers helped the children right their own books. Also, there is a high student/teacher ratio and very few resources. And there is high stakes testing for the students that judges how the teacher is doing. She and other helped change the system through individual mentoring with the teachers. After her PhD program, Jill helped start the business Children Writing Books to Read based off the model she helped found in Uganda.
